Youth development centre impresses Borough boss

Eastbourne Borough manager Tommy Widdrington has backed the Football Development Centre as a strong route towards full-time football.

Last year Eastbourne Borough opened the Centre (EBDC) for elite players in Eastbourne and the surrounding area. It’s provided high-quality coaching and development for local players and created a direct pathway into Eastbourne Borough’s first team.

Widdrington and first team coach Alan Kimble are fully behind the initiative, which trialled 70 local players last year and accepted 40, aged 11-16.

The coaches of Borough’s Under 18 and Reserve sides will also be constantly monitoring progress with a view to providing top players the opportunity to join their sides.

The new trial dates for the 2012/13 season will commence on Monday, September 10.

The trials will last two weeks, consisting of training as well as in-house trial games. Player trials will be free of charge and will be on a first come first served basis.

So far more than 60 applications have been received but there are still some places available.
