Eastbourne Borough boss Tommy Widdrington refused to be downbeat after their 3-1 home defeat to Basingstoke.
Speaking on Monday, he said, “No-one likes getting beaten especially at home. But I think the players will be surprised how many chances they created and how well we actually played against them.
“Credit to Basingstoke they did well and got their three goals but we made the chances but just failed to take them.
“It’s the same old story, it’s about sticking that ball into the back of the net.
“Sometimes that’s not as easy as it sounds and that’s why strikers tend to get paid more money.
“On Saturday we were without Ian Simpemba, Frankie Raymond and Gary Hart was off after 20 minutes. Chris Shephard and Matt Aldred both need more game time and I think you have to look at all these factors when you analyse the match.
“It was disappointing but we will have the chance to put that right in the coming weeks.”
