Eastbourne Borough boss Tommy Widdrington backed his players despite their disappointing home defeat to Havant and Waterlooville.
The 3-1 loss at the Lane leaves Borough in 11th place on 38 points and all but ends their slim play-off chances.
Widdrington said, “As daft as it sounds a lot of positives in a 3-1 defeat is not always the case but some things today really pleased me.
“Having lost Richard Pacquette early to injury I thought Richard Pinney was excellent. He took the goal really well but I thought his link up play and his combination play with Loky was excellent.
“You have got to remember we are playing against lads like Ben Wright, Bubb, Brian Stock and Warren Cummings. These lads have played oodles of league football.
“You are not playing against a bang average conference south side here. These are one of the best sides and one of the biggest clubs in this league.
“So for us to be competing and I mean competing, it was a game we lost but there was only a Rizla paper between us. We could have easily been leading at halftime.
“What I will say is rather than people whinging at me as I walk into the dressing room telling me to get new players, I think they want to support the players we have because my lads are honest, they are hard working and they want to play for Eastbourne Borough.
“I think some people have just got to take stock of the whole situation and understand that.”
