Eastbourne Borough’s long-serving physio Ray Tuppen resigned from the club last week.

Tuppen, 62, has been nursing the walking wounded at Priory Lane for the last 12 seasons. But the popular physio walked away from his duties last week after claiming he was undermined one too many times.

He said, “It was a massively hard decision to make but it was the right one.

“The management, chairman and probably the committee know my reasons and I hope they understand. It came to a point where I was banging my head up against brick wall and after a while you realise that it begins to hurt. I have been at the club for a long time and I have probably come too close to the politics of it all.”

Boss Garry Wilson asked Tuppen to reconsider his resignation and stay on until the end of the season.

Tuppen said, “I have an enormous amount of respect for Garry but I made my decision. I have received messages of support from fans and players and I appreciated that. I would like to thank all the players I have worked with, the management, chairman, committee, the stewards and all the medical staff.

Boss Wilson added, “Ray was worked tremendously hard for this club. I have worked with him since my days at Hastings. He is a fine physio and we wish him well.”
