Knowles ‘unlikely to play again this season’

Eastbourne goalkeeping coach Dean Lightwood admits it’s highly unlikely Danny Knowles will play again this season.

Keeper Knowles suffered a horiffic double leg break at Kettering last year and is still struggling to build up strength in the injured leg.

Knowles, who was voted last season’s player of the year, broke his tibia and fibula in April 2010 following a clash with Kettering’s Jean-Paul Marna during Boro’s 4-0 defeat. To add insult to injury, Knowles received a red card and conceded a penalty following the collission. Lightwood said, “It looks very unlikely that he will feature this season. He cannot run at the moment and the muscle in the calf is not strong enough.

“He has been working hard in the gym to get back to fitness but he is a long way off playing.”
