Simon Johnson hopes to return to Eastbourne Borough’s line-up as they welcome second placed Eastleigh to Priory Lane tonight (Tuesday).

Attacking midfielder Johnson sat out the 2-1 victory in Gosport last Tuesday and would also have missed Saturday’s clash in Bishop Stortford had it not been postponed.

Borough boss Tommy Widdrington said, “It was frustrating to have the match called off but on the plus side I will probably have one or two players back who would have missed Saturday’s game. Simon is one of those players and hopefully he can have a good session on Monday and he’ll be ready to go on Tuesday.

Manny Akokhia is another play who could also feature. The midfielder has had to patient for first team chances after his mid season switch from Staines. Akokhia came off the bench to score the winner against Whitehawk and was in-line for a staring role against Dorchester but rolled his ankle in training.

Widdrington added, “I was gutted for Manny. He has worked very hard since his return and just when he was about to get his chance he did his ankle. But hopefully he nearing full-fitness and he will get to see the best of him between now and the end of the season.” Borough’s latest postponement will see them play twice a week between for the remainder of the campaign. Widdrington’s men are in eighth place and remain among a group of teams chasing that all-important play-off spot.

Also on Tuesday night , Eastbourne Town travel to Ryman League division one south basement side Corinthinan Casuals in a relegation clash. In the County League, Hailsham Town travel to Lingfield while Eastbourne United welcome Westfield to the Oval.
