Eastbourne Borough boss Towmmy Widdrington insists there is plenty more to come from Sam Cole after the young defender signed on for another season at Priory Lane.

Widdrington fought off interest from other clubs for the 20-year-old left-sided defender who can also play left midfield.

Cole made an immediate impact at the club last season after stepping up from the Sussex County League when he joined The Sports from Rye United.

Widdrington said, “Sam was a player in demand and we have fought off interest from other clubs to retain his services.

“I hope this indicates my intention that I will and have been looking to recruit players I feel can take the football club forward, irrespective of whether I knew them before I arrived.

“Sam showed he could handle the vast majority of the things required after stepping up to this level.

“I will now be looking for him not to rest on that but to make further strides now he’s had a taste.

“I believe there is more to come from him.”

Cole joins defender Darren Baker, skipper Ollie Rowe, and new recruit Matt Turpin as confirmed players for next season.
