Early strikes by Elliott Romain and Nathaniel Pinney, followed by solid defending, were the platform for an impressive 2-1 Eastbourne Borough victory at Whitehawk on Tuesday night.
Romain put the Sports ahead in just three minutes after smart work by Reading loanee Jake Sheppard and Jamie Taylor, and then Pinney doubled the lead on 18 minutes, with Taylor again the provider.
A stunned Whitehawk side had plenty of pressure but found Borough keeper Lewis Carey in inspired form, while 18-year-old Callum Buckley - newly signed on loan from Premiership Bournemouth slotted seamlessly into the Sports defence.
Former Eastbourne keeper Craig Ross pulled off two stunning saves at the other end to prevent the Sports from extending their lead, and despite a stoppage-time goal by Scott Nielsen for the Hawks, the well-earned three points were safely in the bag. The win takes Borough up to twelfth place - above Whitehawk - in the National South table.
