Dogged Boro’ withstand Dartford pressure in FA Trophy stalemate

Eastbourne Borough produced a determined performance as they drew 0-0 with Blue Square South highflyers Dartford in the first round of the FA Trophy at Priory Lane on Saturday.

Skipper Gary Elphick and fellow centre back Ollie Rowe were outstanding in defence as they stood up to spells of heavy pressure from the visitors.

Dartford dominated the first half and had chances through Adam Green, Lee Burn and John Wallis.

Boro midfielder Gary Charman was replaced in the first half after suffering a heavy blow to the head which left the midfielder extremely groggy.

Boro’ played better with the wind at their backs in the second period. Ben Watson had a decent chance on 49 minutes but his weak left footed shot was easily saved.

Substitute Ross Treleaven caused a few problems when he came on, particuarly with his long throws, but Boro’ failed to the force the winner.

In the end they were thankful for Rowe’s goal line clearence deep in injury-time.

The replay will take place in Dartford on Tuesday night.
