Eastbourne Borough overcame brave opposition from Newhaven to progress in the Sussex Senior Cup on Tuesday night.

Borough took an early lead through Kiran Khinda-John but they were rocked by a Newhaven equaliser from Ebou Jallow on 26 minutes, and the lively County Leaguers held their own for much of the first half in wet and windy Priory Lane conditions.

A Matt Aldred pile-driver restored the lead right on half-time, and a near full strength Borough side went on to dominate the second half with two goals from Richard Pacquette and a Sam Beale direct free-kick.

Borough now join Eastbourne United, 1-0 winners over Crowborough, in the last 16 of the Senior Cup. But Hailsham’s tie at Steyning Town fell victim to the weather.
