Billericay Town manager Dean Brennan praised the medical staff at Priory Lane after a terrible facial injury to his player Adam Coombes. during their 2-0 win at Eastbourne Borough on Saturday.
Coombes was kicked in the face after an accidental collision with Borough’s Sergio Torres, which resulted in a penalty to Billericay.
Brennan said, “I was delighted with the result but all our thoughts are with Adam after his terrible injury. All the boys went to the hospital after the match to visit him.
“It was a bad kick to the face but totally accidental. We showed so much character and spirit and I’m really proud of the group. They have won for Coombes today and that’s very important. But he put his face in where it hurts and got us a penalty. I’m really proud today and proud of the entire football club.
“We all know a lot has gone on this week. A lot of people are talking negative but I see it as a positive.
A tweet from Billericay Town read: “A massive thank you to all of the medical staff here at Priory Lane this afternoon that have helped treat Coombsey!”
Eastbourne Borough’s Sergio Torres tweeted: “After talking to Adam Coombes I am so pleased that he is ok and recovering well and happy he understood there was no intention to hurt him, Very unfortunate situation and things like this make you realise there are more important things in life than football.”
