Eastbourne Borough and the rest of the clubs in the three divisions of the National League are to vote on whether they want to end the season.

And if they do, they will be asked what happens next in terms of final placings being decided and teams going up and down.

Eastbourne Borough are safely in the National League South pack and are not going up or down, but many other clubs' destinies were in the balance when football was suspended.

It is reported today that the National League board has approved the idea to end the current season prematurely and has advised clubs in its three divisions to vote in favour of the proposal.

Clubs will then be asked to help ‘determine the outcomes of the season’. Play-offs for relegation and promotion in the National League, National League North and National League South are believed to still be possible.

BBC Sport says the National League board wrote to its 68 member clubs informing them of the idea of ending the season.

The letter said: “The board has approved an ordinary resolution for clubs, that the playing season shall immediately end for all fixtures scheduled up to and including 25 April 2020. The board recommends clubs vote for this resolution.

“If the ordinary resolution is passed and the remaining ‘normal season’ league matches of the season are cancelled, the league will then immediately proceed with a poll of North and South clubs to determine the outcomes of the season across those divisions."
