Eastbourne United manager Paul Daubeney believes the Christmas period will make or break Eastbourne United’s County League division two promotion ambitions.

United currently sit fifth in the Sussex County league Division two and welcome Oakwood to the Oval on Saturday before their hectic Christmas schedule.

United will be boosted by the return of Mark Goodwin, from a back injury, and midfielder Gianluca Del-Gaudio. Simon Catt is the only player unavailable for United, who is serving a one-match suspension after picking up five yellow cards.

United are searching for back-to-back wins after claiming an impressive 3-2 win over local rivals Seaford last weekend and are looking to extend their unbeaten run to eight consecutive league matches.

Manager Paul Daubeney said, “We’ve had a good weeks training, but it always a concern at this time of year that games will be postponed. We’ve got good facilities here so it won’t stop us training,”

United will seek a repeat performance of the RUR Charity Cup match in October, which saw the side claim a 3-1 victory over Oakwood. As for the visitors they currently sit 15th in the division after claiming just one win in their last six matches.

Daubeney added, “Each game is very important over the Christmas period as the games come thick and fast. The next run of games could shape the rest of our season and hopefully aid in our push for promotion.”
