Baitup departure was no surprise

Eastbourne United boss Simon Rowland said Liam Baitup’s move to Eastbourne Town came as little surprise.

Baitup fired home more than 40 goals in all competition’s for United last season.

The striker agreed to return to Town, where he will compete two divisions higher in the Ryman League south.

Rowland said, “The Ryman League is the level Liam should be performing at and I’m sure he will do well there.

“He has played Ryman football before and, if he is right, he will adapt to that again.

“Obviously I would have liked to have kept Liam but any striker who scores 40 goals is going to attract attention from a higher level. I wish him all the best although, it would have been nice if he could have picked up the phone and let me know. I found out about it in the press, which was not ideal.”
