Ben Austin has decided to leave Eastbourne Town and join Garry Wilson and Danny Bloor at Ryman League Premier club Lewes.
Austin, 36, was an influential figure at the Saffrons last season and regularly captained the side as Town finished in their highest Ryman League Division One South position.
But the lure of ‘one final challenge’ tempted Austin to the Dripping Pan.
Austin will join up with former Eastbourne Borough teammates Matt Crabb (player coach), Nathan Crabb, Steve Brinkhurst and Riki Banks and, of course, his former manager Wilson.
Austin said, “I always knew it could be a possibility but I wanted to wait and see what was happening at Town and give myself a bit of time to think.
“Nothing against Town but I just felt this was the right decision. I know many of the players at Lewes and obviously I have worked with Garry for many years and with Danny last season.
“I spoke with them and they wanted me to add a bit of experience. They are looking to improve on last season, get a bit of stability within the side and bring in a few players they can rely on.
“At 36, I told them I will give it a year and see what happens after that.
“As long as the fitness holds out I should be fine. I will know if I’m not contributing the way I should. I don’t want to be picked on reputation and if I feel I’m not contributing, I will call it a day.
“I was happy with my performances last season and hopefully I can continue that at Lewes.”
