Ex-Sussex man Ted James was top player and coach

Former Sussex cricketer and Eastbourne College cricket coach Ted James passed away last week.

Ted played as a seam bowler for Sussex during the 1950’s. He made 299 first-class appearances for the County, taking 843 wickets with a best of 9 for 60 in a victory over Yorkshire at Hove. He was also useful with the bat and scored 3,411 first-class runs.

After leaving Sussex Ted was a popular coach at Eastbourne College for many years.

Ted passed away peacefully on April 2 aged 88.

His funeral took place at Eastbourne Crematorium on Tuesday April 16.
