EASTBOURNE Borough will be playing Conference South football next season.
Garry Wilson's men made sure of a place among non-league soccer's elite when they drew 1-1 at Newport County today.
Borough went into the match needing a point and once again their defence rose to the occasion holding out against immense pressure during the last 10 minutes.
Early on, Newport had taken a 21st minute lead with their first attack, Sam Bowen sending shock waves down the Eastbourne spines.
But six minutes later Mark Goodwin scored the all-important leveller and that is how the score remained.
Sadly, boss Garry Wilson missed the final match; he was in hospital having an achilles tendon operation.
There was more joy in the first division of the County league where Eastbourne Town won 4-0 at Sidlesham to complete a great weekend for the club.
The previous evening Town reserves won the Sussex Intermediate Cup, beating Franklands Village 2-1 at Lancing.
Brad Manton and Eamonn Brennan scored the reserves' goals.
Promoted division two side Eastbourne United AFC also ended on a high, a Nima Cham goal taking them to a 1-0 win over fellow high riders Worthing United.
But there was no joy in division one for Hailsham Town who lost 3-2 at home to third placed East Preston despite goals from Damien Smith and sub Tobi Hutchinson.
