The August bank holiday is fast approaching, and supermarket chains Asda and Tesco are celebrating with discount offers on alcoholic drinks.
Both supermarkets are currently running a deal offering shoppers 25 per cent off when they buy six bottles of selected wine or fizz.
Tesco will give 25 per cent off to customers who buy six or more bottles of wine online.
The offer is valid until Monday (27 Aug) and includes a wide selection of not only wines, but also champagnes, with more than 380 available in total.
Shoppers will be able to mix and match wines online, as long as they buy more than six bottles.
This deal also works for a number of already discounted wines, so shoppers can get an even better bargain. Note that it’s worth checking if any exclusions apply to make sure that the wine you’re buying is included in the deal.
At Tesco, Wolf Blass Yellow Label Chardonnay is usually £8 a bottle, but it is currently on offer for £7.
If you bought six bottles at this discounted price, you would then get an additional 25 per cent off at the checkout.
Instead of paying a total of £48 you would pay £31.50, saving £16.50.
However, to be able to use this online offer of 25 per cent off, you’ll have to spend more that £40 in total to avoid a minimum basket charge.
Asda are also offering a 25 per cent discount if shoppers purchase six or more bottles of wine, but, like Tesco’s deal, the offer is only valid until Sunday.
This mix and match deal is available in-store on over 400 bottles of wine, including Orbitali Amarone Della Valpolicella and Moet & Chandon.
There is also an online discount offer across 39 different bundles of wine.
The cheapest offer is a Wolf Blass and Blossom Hill bundle, costing just £23.97 for two whites, two reds and two rosé wines, equating to less than £4 a bottle.
Different cases of wine are also on offer for £27, including Ca’ Mandato Pinot Grigio,
Aupori Sauvignon Blanc, Asda Extra Special Malbec and Torres Vina Sol.
That’s only £4.50 a bottle – less than the cost of a single glass in most pubs.
The supermarket is selling six bottles of Taittinger or Moet & Chandon Rose Imperial Champagne for £157.50 (£26.25 each), which means a saving of over £50.
Note that Asda does have a minimum online spend of £25 to £40 depending on your postcode.
Although it’s only Asda and Tesco currently offering the 25 per cent discount this weekend, there are other supermarkets chains where you can still bag a bargain.
For example, Aldi is currently selling cases of wine from as little as £22.14.
There you can get six bottles of Castellore Sicilian Pinot Grigio for £22.14, six bottles of Rockstone Ridge Californian Merlot for £26.94 and six bottles of Castellore Prosecco Spumante DOC for £35.94.
Aldi will also give you free delivery if you buy six or more wines or spirits, which saves you an extra £3.
It’s worth shopping around to find the best discounts and savings on offer, not only in-store but online too.
