Town rediscovered its rich heritage

We would like to express our thanks to all shops, restaurants and other businesses in Broad Street, Church Street and High Street in Seaford who so willingly displayed images from our ‘SEAFORD rediscovered’ historic photographs collection in their front windows over Heritage Weekend (September 10-11).

We set ourselves the task for 2011 of trying to reacquaint Seaford residents, and others, with an idea of how the town has looked over the past 100 years and how it has changed.

Since April we have had a temporary exhibition of photographs from our archive in the Museum at Martello Tower 74 on Seaford seafront. That exhibition will continue until early 2012.

The reaction of our museum visitors tells us that people enjoy the glimpse into the past we are able to offer. From the positive comments we have received, we are sure the photos in the town shops were also appreciated, as was the co-operation of the traders.

Although it takes many hours of voluntary work identifying and preparing the images, we are hoping to repeat the idea in 2012, but with more photos of a wider area of the town.
