I refer to the plans to demolish the planting beds at Bankers’ Corner in Terminus Road to make way for a display area.
These features give an important visual and psychological clue as people move from a conventional highway to a pedestrian priority area and vice versa, of course.
In that sense, they make the area safer. And in addition they look good and reflect the Sussex Gardens terrace of buildings that still exist above the shopping frontage.
The pedestrian area as a whole is now looking very battered and tired and in need of a complete facelift.
In my view, that should be the spending priority.
