WITH reference to the article in the Herald newspaper of January 28, where East Sussex County Council proudly announces its offer of fully trained staff to act as “funeral celebrants” for a “civil funeral service”, before attempting to drive a further nail in the coffin of our Christian heritage, should they not have checked in an English dictionary the meaning of the word ‘celebrant’?
The proper definition of the word is – officiating priest esp. Eucharist.
On second thoughts, would they have understood the meaning of the word eucharist?
