My wife and I were walking along the cliff top path on the Seven Sisters last Saturday when we were passed by two female runners, dressed in black running gear and carrying back packs onto which were attached the photo of a young girl.
As there was a charity walk taking place on that day we assumed these runners were part of the event and raising money for a cause close to their hearts.
We were, therefore, very surprised that both girls, as they were running, discarded water bottles onto the grass. We called after them but they either did not hear or did not want to hear.
The bottles were only small and both girls had back packs into which they could have put the bottles until they had the opportunity to dispose of them properly.
They both ran past the National Trust Café at Birling Gap so could have easily disposed of the bottles responsibly.
With all the publicity recently about discarded plastic being a blight on our environment we were frankly appalled that these girls were so thoughtless. We picked up the bottles, carried them to Birling Gap and disposed of them in the appropriate recycle bin.
