Pity it was built in the first place

AS ONE of the ‘Towner’s Bashers and Moaners’ (May 15) I would just like to say that I agree with most of what Ron Wells has to say about the place and its having to conform with the 1960s standard set by the neighbouring Congress Theatre.

But what I would say is that it’s a pity that that ugly brute of a building was built like that in the first place, which can also be said of the library, which stark modernity belies the reason for its being.

As to this modernist building focussing on modernist art - I only hope that the Tracy Eminence doesn’t bed down here one day!
