I have to say I don’t have much sympathy for the Eastbourne Downs Golf Club.
Why? My son had a business, not in Eastbourne, but had his local council as a landlord.
He started a small cafe for tourists and the elderly, tea, coffee, snacks, that sort of thing.
The winter months were a problem with a huge drop off in customers.
While he had kept up with his bills he knew the business wasn’t sustainable and had to call it a day.
He didn’t have a special grant, like the golf club, he wasn’t offered special repayment terms, like the golf club.
No, he had to pay his bills on time, every time.
My only criticism of the council is that the golf club appears to have been running up debts for years.
