National Park has special qualities

I was pleased to read in the Herald (July 29) that Eastbourne Borough Council has recognised the importance of the town’s situation in respect of the South Downs National Park.

At the voluntarily-run Beachy Head Countryside Centre, we followed the Park Authority’s official launch on April 1 with our own National Park Welcome Weekend, the reception being attended by the mayor and various representatives of the council.

The event was a great success and was reported by the Herald and featured on BBC local radio.

Our publicity leaflet, supported by the National Park Authority, which promotes our unique position at the gateway to the National Park, has been widely distributed and is available at many outlets including The Tourist Information Centre.

I, therefore, welcome Eastbourne Borough Council joining us in capitalising on the special qualities of our particular corner of Britain’s newest National Park.
