Poison clouds at Birling Gap and Seaford – bad. Eastbourne as polluted as London – bad. Sixty-one deaths each year due to pollution – sad. Fuming in gridlocked traffic – mad. Struggling to find a place to park – mad. Children taken everywhere by car – sad. The obesity epidemic – sad. Ten thousand new houses planned between Hailsham and Polegate – mad. Average two cars to every new home – bad. Loss of trees and fields – sad.
Now imagine Dutch style infrastructure. All ages safely walking or cycling to work, school or shops – charming. Less obesity and disease – life enhancing. Less congestion – calming. Less pollution – climate balming.
We owe it to the next generation and the planet to reduce traffic and pollution now. Otherwise we are all mad, bad and sad.
