LETTER: Why no free parking signs?

I noticed in the latest edition of the Herald that parking charges in the town were to be suspended for Christmas, Boxing and New Year’s Day. Yet I noticed no notices were displayed on the ticket machines to indicate free parking during this period. Consequently people were putting money into the machines in the belief they had to pay. Is this oversight the work of an unscrupulous council? I say that any monies raised during this period should, as a gesture of goodwill, be shared out between local charities.
