The ‘Eastbourne Review’ rationale for the proposed sale of the downland farms is supposedly factual but presents a totally biased justification. No space has been given for counter arguments such as those put forward by a host of independent environmental, nature and wildlife experts.
Nor does the document mention that nine Eastbourne councillors strongly oppose this sale.
As has been stated in the Herald letters pages, the claim that restrictive covenants protect our downland is simply untrue. These covenants have no validity once the farms change ownership. This habitat, wildlife, scenic beauty and even the health of the town’s residents would be at risk.
What is also disturbing is that this misleading ‘Review’ must have been written with the participation of council officers. Where was their independent, impartial advice? May we know why these deceits were ever allowed to be put before the public?
Indeed, who colluded at the Town Hall with the supporters of this disgraceful propaganda exercise that bears no resemblance to a genuine consultation of opinion?
