As a regular yearly visitor to Eastbourne from Canada I find that I too have been caught up with the golden pier debate.
Good taste is, of course, in the eye of the beholder, and as we all know we cannot please everyone.
While there are those who are clearly not overjoyed with the colour choice, the greater affront to people, I think, is the is the lack of planning permission that preceded the painting of the pier.
However, more distressing to me, and more shocking than any colour that the domes on the pier could ever be painted, is the appalling state of the Union Jack at the entrance of the pier.
At first glance it looks like a tattered old tea towel flying above the remains of an old clock.
Surely Sheikh Abid Gulzar could rectify this as it is nothing less than an insult to Queen and Country.
