LETTER: Taking care of wasp nuisance

I’m writing in response to the story about a swarm of wasps in Rye Close, Polegate [Herald, August 14]. I recently experienced wasps in my back garden. As I am no longer able, two gardeners attend to my garden every fortnight and two weeks ago one of them was stung and said there must be a nest in the hedge. Clearly there were a lot of wasps flying around the hedge area. Next door a young boy plays.

So I contacted a pest controller. A man called with equipment. He commented there was no nest but that wasps were eating aphids which were feeding on sap on an overhanging goat-willow tree. He sprayed the hedge, tree, ground and surrounding area with an insecticide and there has been no trouble from wasps since.
