LETTER: Strange priorities for road repairs

The people at East Sussex Highways Agency have a strange sense of priorities. They are spending money, material and man hours over 11 weeks to create a cycle route on the sea front. A cursory inspection of the road between the pier and the Grand Hotel would reveal that the urgent work is to repair the surface, which is badly pitted and rutted after years of trench and hole digging by the utilities. Silverdale Road and Compton Street are in an even worse condition. I don’t doubt residents in many other parts of Eastbourne have similar stories to tell about the diabolical state of their roads. Why doesn’t the agency do work that benefits all road users rather than a vociferous minority?
