LETTER: Sort out the ventilation

A full house at The Congress Theatre for the Mike and The Mechanics Concert on Saturday, May 9, witnessed a superb evening of entertainment which surely shows that if they book first class acts people will attend.

However, in spite of all the work that has been undertaken recently, principally to the building structure, the mechanical ventilation system remains unfit for purpose and the situation is further exacerbated when the venue is full.

I know from my own work for EBC many years ago, as a consultant mechanical services design engineer, that there has been a history of poor system performance and am fully aware of the logistical problems associated with bringing the installation up to an acceptable standard, and the capital expenditure required.

But The Congress Theatre is our premier entertainment venue and it is about time the problems were properly addressed and funded.

I accept that it may take several years to resolve all the problems but an upgrade is long overdue and, if The Congress Theatre wants us to pay premium prices for top class entertainers, they should provide a comfortable environment in which to enjoy them.
