LETTER: Sick of excuses for failure

All who travel at all frequently to or from stations in the Eastbourne area will have their own horror stories of experiences in the last few weeks: cancellations, delays, overcrowded short-formation trains and often sheer muddle and conflicting announcements.

Passengers are sick of excuses for failure. The job of railway management is to manage and that means, among other things, providing a good, reliable service.

If, for whatever reason, Southern Railway are unable, or unwilling, to do that, then their franchise should be withdrawn and the railway should either be transferred to another company whose record suggests that they can give better service, or re-nationalised.
