LETTER: Setting sights absurdly low

I write in (slightly incredulous) response to the letter from Michael Harris [July 29]. I think he might have forgotten what Stephen Lloyd achieved. In Stephen Lloyd’s first year, he was the first MP to launch the 100 apprentices in 100 days campaign, started work on bringing back our Sunshine Carnival, forced the Government to change the law so our English Language Schools were protected, was elected to the powerful cross-party Work and Pensions Select Committee, chairman of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Further Education and vice-chairman of the Apprenticeships All-Party Parliamentary Group.

He continued attending and supporting pretty much every Eastbourne event he was invited to and much more besides. All in his first 12-months! In comparison, Mrs Ansell has supported a curry competition and heads up a Conservative-only education committee … which has no formal power.

Perhaps Mr Harris has his sights set so absurdly low that he thinks Mrs Ansell really is achieving something; or maybe it is he who is kidding us?
