LETTER: Sad legacy of housing estates

Thank you Fiona Fielder [Letters, June 17] for voicing exactly my thoughts on the concreting over of the South East.

I spent my childhood and teenage years in Westham and the changes we have seen are horrific with councils passing every development plan that is put to them – quick one-off profits under the guise of Government pressure resulting in over-development with no infrastructure and our precious countryside being swallowed up.

Heaven knows where the thousands of newcomers to East Sussex will find jobs paying enough to fund mortgages or rent on these UNaffordable houses. Shall I mention the extra thousands of cars on roads which even now are totally inadequate?

We will never get back the peaceful beauty we had and instead leave a legacy of countless housing estates with no facilities for the coming generations.
