Letter: RSPCA does its best to help

We regret that B King (Herald letters, June 6) had such difficulty getting through to us concerning the feral cat in their garden and are very grateful for the concern and care given to this poor animal. Every 30 seconds someone in England and Wales calls the RSPCA’s cruelty and advice phone line, which is manned 24 hours a day and seven days a week.

We do our best we can to get to every call, but there will always be times when we are busier than others which may mean callers have to wait for their call to be answered. We really do appreciate callers’ patience on these occasions.

It is important to stress that those needing to report a welfare concern need to call this emergency line and not their local branch, which are independent charities run predominantly by volunteers and do not have the manpower or resources to help with these kinds of incidents.

The correct number to call is 0300 1234 999.
