LETTER: Remembering the sacrifice

My father was a Prisoner of War during the Second World War and spent most of it being moved from prison to prison.

He told me before he died that the country that made the biggest sacrifice was Russia.Twenty-six million Russians lost their lives. It is said that history is written by the victors. The collapse of the Soviet Union in 1990 became the start of the new ideological offensive to rewrite history.

The Russian people withheld a truly monstrous onslaught from the enemy, whose aim was to destroy entire cities and and their people.

Having worked and lived in Moscow and Russia the ‘Great Patriotic War’ as they call it should never be forgotten by all the allies, for the sacrifice made by the people of Russia.
