My wife and I are writing in support of Sheikh Abid Gulzar and his controversial painting of the domes on his pier in the colour gold.
Walking as we do from South Harbour to Eastbourne, it is a pleasure to see the redecorated central dome shining in the distance and also the generally spruced-up appearance of the superstructure. It’s such an improvement on the previously run-down and dilapidated state in which it had become under the auspices of the previous owners.
We say good luck to the Sheikh and good fortune to him in continuing to preserve the pier for Eastbourne, hopefully without too much interference from outside sources. One only has to think of the state in which the West Pier in Brighton now finds itself, in order to convince us how fortunate we are to have had the Sheikh to take over the fortunes of the pier for Eastbourne, its inhabitants and its many visitors.
