LETTER: Personal attack undeserved

I have cogitated for some time whether to reply to the extraordinary and nasty letter [July 29] written by Michael Harris in which he makes comments that are on the verge on being libellous about Stephen Lloyd, who cannot reply.

Mr Lloyd worked hard and made a huge difference to Eastbourne, achieving many things that were to the town’s advantage.

We all have different opinions about various matters. We can all democratically differ about our allegiances to a particular political party, but what we should not do is descend into personal and vindictive comments about an individual who does not deserve it.

Michael Harris writes regularly to these Letters pages, usually with some grumble about something. If I felt that his opinions were valid or reasonable I would be pleased, but unfortunately I do not.

This time he has gone too far. He asks that Stephen Lloyd should retire ... might I suggest that Michael Harris not only does the same, but also that we might have the pleasure of not seeing any more vitriolic letters published in the Herald.
