Am I the only one to feel miffed that the Enterprise Centre has introduced a 50p charge for the first 15 minutes of parking? This seems a bit greedy to me and not very, er, enterprising. OK, perhaps some folk might take liberties and use it as an extension of the station car park, but most people just pop in to buy some flowers, grab a sandwich, pick up a birthday card or, as I did, drop off my cat at CobieVetCare for a routine op.
Even if you’re just on a flying visit, it’s still supporting local businesses, who are crying out for our trade. But on the other hand, having dashed in for a bunch of bananas, you might decide to linger a bit longer, have a coffee and wander around the Enterprise Centre. It’s a great place to shop and there’s always something new going on, especially at the weekend. Then you don’t resent having to pay for parking. Or you could simply not bother to go there at all, especially when it takes the best part of 15 minutes to queue at the machine to pay.
What a shame that when many town centres are reducing or abolishing parking charges to encourage greater footfall in our shops, the Enterprise Centre has meanly taken away one of the few parking perks we have. For many of us, having 15 minutes’ free parking was just the ticket.
