LETTER: Low on the list of priorities

Your article ‘Pavilion Thrills Cricketers’ [June 10], and your photograph of the ‘stunning’ new cricket pavilion built by Persimmon Homes at Roebuck Park, Hellingly, ticks all the wrong boxes. Hailsham Cricket Club members are naturally delighted. But what about the hundreds of men, women and children who live in the 400 new houses already built there and those of another 250 houses under construction less than a mile away? Are they delighted?

They, like the majority of residents in the Hellingly area, would have reason to be if it was a new primary school or a new health centre that had just been provided by the developer. Instead of slapping each other on the back, Wealden District councillors and Hellingly Parish councillors should start getting their seriously skewed priorities right and work with the developer to build what is really needed in the community. Cricket pavilions would be a long way down that list.
