The poor old DGH seems to be in for a lot of bad publicity of late. But may I take this opportunity to take the opposite view and say a big thank you to all of the staff in the endoscopy unit for the wonderful treatment when I had a colonoscopy there on Saturday. Yes, they do work Saturdays and Sundays. I find a friendly manner and a nice smile go a long way to making the whole experience more pleasurable. There’s one downside and this is more a hospital management problem. Because there is no emergency treatment available at weekends in the endoscopy unit if in the unlikely event of there being a problem whilst undergoing the procedure, the patient would have to sent over to the Conquest Hospital in Hastings. Isn’t it time we had all of our services that got transferred to the Conquest back at the DGH?
