LETTER: Is the NHS in safe hands?

So Sussex Community NHS Trust has outbid East Sussex NHS Healthcare Trust to run Community Care.

Both apparently, are NATIONAL Health Service Trusts, so what is going on here? Much is made of administrators taking over the NHS, but in the USA, with its totally privatised healthcare system where competition reigns supreme, a much higher proportion of healthcare spending goes on administration than here.

Of course it does. Each competing body needs its own administrative team. Such, though, is the aim of all the main parties, including the Labour Party – Americanisation of the NHS. All the main parties say, “The NHS is safe in our hands”, but it will only be safe if “our hands” means those who rely on the NHS, rather than bloodsucking private companies.
