LETTER: In memory of fellow pupils

Recently, in both the Herald and Gazette, you have stated that Memorial Field, where the Springboks trained before the Rugby World Cup, was the former home of Beresford House school. This is incorrect. Memorial Field was the home of St Cyprian’s, a distinguished preparatory school, until its destruction by fire in 1939. The ground was purchased and given to Eastbourne College in 1946 by former pupils as a memorial to their fellows who lost their lives in the 1939-45 war.
