Barely five minutes after his purchase of the pier, Sheikh Abid Gulzar dwarfs the ‘Eastbourne Pier’ sign with a huge ‘Lions Pier’ sign on either side. Was planning permission required to plaster these gaudy daubs on the face of a beautiful Grade II* Listed structure?
Is this what the dear people of Eastbourne want, as Mr Gulzar professes to be so convinced of?
There are enough lions and ‘Lions’ references in the town already – from roundabouts to hotel signs. They’re tasteless, gaudy and lacking in any vestige of refinement.
The sign of a self-publicist. Go roar somewhere else.
