LETTER: Hampden Park gridlock?

I would like to congratulate Eastbourne Borough Council’s planning department on their splendid effort over the years to totally gridlock Hampden Park. I have lived in Eastbourne for 61 years and have been impressed at the way they have gradually built up the area to achieve their ambition.

I must admit, there have been times when I believed they might not accomplish the dream.

For example, the end of Lottbridge drive and the demolition of the Trust House pub and the sweetshop in Brodrick Road all to accommodate a flyover are prime examples of laying false trails and, more recently, Cross Levels way.

I almost thought for one horrible moment they had given up on their objective but it turned out to be the planning departments cunning master plan along with the new Morrisons supermarket and the building of houses on the old Lottbridge pub site.

All it requires now is for a new development on the old Goldwell site on Brampton Road Industrial Estate to turn their dream into reality.

So Eastbourne Borough Council, give yourselves a pat on the back for a job well done over the years while we residents living in Hampden Park look forward to total gridlock in the near future.
