Letter: Grossly unfair to the majority

The prom has been a unique place for decades for families to enjoy the sea air, the views, the peace – a place to relax away from the rigours of everyday life.

Then along came Bespoke and with a 73 per cent mandate from the people of Eastbourne, which in reality turned out to be about 500 people, and this minority can now turn the seafront into a bike lane. Not very democratic, and grossly unfair to the vast majority of people who like to walk in safety.

Safe walking is getting to be a thing of the past with the ever-growing numbers of pavement cyclists riding on any pavement anywhere in town knowing no action will be taken against them.

I wonder if the old adage of “If you can’t beat them join them” might well be the answer, so everyone get on your bikes and fill the pavements. Or would this be breaking the law?
