LETTER: Good for health – and safety

I would like to add my support to the seafront cycle path. I would be one of those people who, because of health-related problems, would benefit greatly from being able to cycle safely in Eastbourne.

I would feel too vulnerable on the roads around the town and have witnessed some ‘near misses’ for cyclists. It would be wonderful to have the full length of the seafront to cycle along and shared pathways seem to work very well for everyone in other similar locations.

When I lived in Hove I used to cycle the full length of Hove/Brighton/Ovingdean without needing to go on the road. That stretch can be very busy with pedestrians in certain places at certain times but it works because everyone takes care, and so many people benefit from it.

Seaford now also has a shared pathway along the seafront. Since moving to Eastbourne earlier this year I haven’t cycled and would love to be able to do so as it would help me to stay fit and healthy in mind and body now that my walking has become more restricted.
