LETTER: Don’t claim all the trains credit

Lewes MP Maria Caulfield is implying in by-election leaflets in Seaford and Newhaven that she has brought about the return of the regular train service from Seaford via Lewes, Falmer etc to Brighton.

Ms Caulfield has completely ignored the huge amount of community protest. If our vital train service has been restored, or is going to be, it is the result of a great deal of campaigning effort by ordinary people concerned about the massive disruption and difficulty caused by the loss of more than 80 per cent of our trains. Also campaigns by people concerned for the economies of our towns. Ms Caulfield may have played a part – if the trains are in fact restored on our line. But now it seems she wants to take ALL the credit! This is an insult to her constituents. I was glad to hear our MP on BBC Radio 4 state that she is keeping up her nursing skills, because she represents a marginal constituency.
