I am writing in response to the letters [August 28] sent in regarding the free parking of motorhomes towards Holywell during Airbourne. My husband and I were in one of these motorhomes. I cannot speak for others, but we do support and contribute to the local restaurants.
We had our breakfast in our van and sometimes lunch, however we supported local restaurants for our main meals and regularly went to The Hydro and other places for a cup of coffee or tea. We had several visitors who dropped by and they too supported Eastbourne restaurants.
With regard to buying food, how about the thousands who took picnics for Airbourne and what about the litter that was left behind by many of those? We either put our litter in the receptacles or took it home with us.
We also ensured we put money in the buckets that were brought round by people collecting. Yes, we do enjoy free parking and to me Eastbourne is one of the best resorts for hundreds of miles and you people who live in this seaside town are very, very fortunate. So please do not begrudge sharing – for just four days a year – free parking which allows others to enjoy this lovely event in this wonderful place.
